A Little About This Trip
Two days in Florence goes quickly, but the historic center is compact enough to give you a fantastic first taste of the city! 🇮🇹 Day one takes you from the Duomo and Piazza della Repubblica to Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi, with plenty of food along the way. 🏛️ The Duomo’s green, pink, and white marble made it one of my favorite cathedrals of our Italy and Spain trip—even though the four-hour line stopped us from getting inside—so book ahead if the interior matters to you.
Day two crosses the Arno for Pitti Palace, the Boboli Gardens, a wine window, and sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo. That viewpoint was a full 10 out of 10 for me; seeing the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, and the red rooftops together is SO worth the climb. 🌇 If you can add another day, my 3-day Florence itinerary adds the dome climb, Accademia, Santa Croce, and more museum time. The 4-day itinerary finishes with a Chianti wine day.

Piazza della Repubblica
Why this stop?
- Live buskers and a merry-go-round make the square feel SO lively
- The Column of Abundance marks the Roman city’s central crossroads
- A beautiful place to absorb Florence’s yellow architecture and cobblestone streets

- Freshly baked schiacciata stuffed generously with salumi, cheeses, spreads, and vegetables
- The truffle-beef La Beatrice was PHENOMENAL—10 out of 10!
- You can watch steaming bread come straight from the oven

Ponte Vecchio
Why this stop?
- A 1345 bridge lined end to end with goldsmiths’ shops
- It feels like a shopping street floating above the Arno!

- A riverside gelateria serving Florence since 1990
- The passion fruit and key lime double scoop was SO refreshing
- House specialties extend beyond scoops to semifreddo cakes and zuccotti
Babae Wine Window
Why this stop?
- Sip wine through a tiny street window from Florence’s historic wine tradition
- Babae revived its centuries-old buchetta in 2019
- A fun little stop for wine and people-watching 🍷

- The wine window serves from 7–8 PM; outside that hour, order inside
Piazzale Michelangelo
Why this stop?
- A 10-out-of-10 panorama over Florence’s Duomo and red rooftops
- The skyline absolutely screams Italy! 🇮🇹
- Sunset brings locals, photographers, and engagement shoots to the terrace

Before You Go to Florence
Yes! Two days covers the cathedral, Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi, plus Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens across the river. You'll be moving at a good pace on both of them, though. If you also want David at the Accademia, the 463 steps up the dome, Palazzo Vecchio and Santa Croce, give yourself three.
Reserve the Uffizi and the combined Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens entry first. The cathedral itself is free and does not take reservations, and this two-day route skips the dome climb, so there is no reason to buy a Duomo pass just for the church.
It's a squeeze. The climb is only sold on the Brunelleschi Pass and your time is locked in when you buy it, so you'd be fitting another fixed slot around the Uffizi on an already full arrival day. With two days I'd skip it and go up to Piazzale Michelangelo instead, where you see the dome and the whole skyline for free.
If you're only in Florence for 2 days, try to avoid Mondays. Many museums in Florence close on Mondays!
