3 Day Vegas Itinerary: The Strip & Hoover Dam
Spend three days in Vegas exploring the Strip and seeing O, then choose between Hoover Dam with Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire.

Day OneCenter Strip Day
The whole day stays on the center Strip. We kick things off at the Bellagio fountains and the conservatory glasshouse behind them, then crab legs at Bacchanal and the Venetian's canals. We close out with The Wizard of Oz wrapped around the inside of Sphere and a night helicopter ride. 🚁

The Westin Las Vegas Hotel & Spa
It's an 826-room hotel just east of the Strip with no casino floor at all, which is honestly why I loved it. I booked last minute on a packed weekend and still got a room around $200 with a view of the Sphere AND the High Roller — spacious, spotless, five-star feeling. They handed us so many vouchers I didn't pay for a single drink in two days, and breakfast was steak and eggs Benedict. The Strip is a couple minutes' walk, and the doorman has cabs pulling up fast when you'd rather ride.

Fountains of Bellagio
The fountains in front of the Bellagio are a free show on an 8.5-acre lake, driven by more than 1,200 nozzles and nearly 4,800 lights sunk under the water. You can watch from the sidewalk or the bridges over the Boulevard, and shows repeat right through the evening until midnight. At night, with the Strip lit up behind it, the water moving in perfect time with the music is breathtaking. Get to the rail a few minutes early and you're standing right on top of it.
Fun fact: Sixteen of the nozzles are "extreme shooters" that use compressed air at 500 pounds per square inch to throw water 460 feet straight up.

Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
It's a 14,000-square-foot glasshouse off the Bellagio lobby, free to walk into, and five times a year the whole thing gets torn out and rebuilt around a new theme. The props are huge, and everything filling them in is live — real flowers and plants, close enough to lean in on. The smell hits you first, dense and green and unmistakably fresh. Go in for a quick look and you'll wander a lot longer than you planned.
Fun fact: About 100 people work around the clock for nearly a week to install each changeover, drawing on 800 to 1,000 plant varieties grown to order.

Bacchanal Buffet
It's the buffet at Caesars Palace, and the crab legs are the reason to go. So fresh and juicy, and there's butter ON TAP — we basically made it a mission to eat as many as we could. The prime rib came out tender, tacos get grilled in front of you, and the dessert counter is where the place really shows off. Book a slot even a few hours ahead and you'll walk right in. You'll leave already picking what to come back for.

The Venetian Las Vegas
It's a whole chunk of Venice dropped on the Strip — a Rialto Bridge out front, canals inside, gondolas drifting past the shops. We walked the place end to end, and honestly the hotel itself is the attraction. We came back later for a gondola as a Mother's Day treat, booked the shared price, and nobody else showed up, so we got the boat to ourselves. 🚤 If you're staying, ask for a high floor — some rooms look right at the Sphere — and with all the restaurants and shops you can go a full day without going outside.
Fun fact: That bell tower out front is a 315-foot copy of St Mark's Campanile, and the little figure on top is the archangel Gabriel.

Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas
This is the shopping stretch inside the Venetian, where the walkways follow a canal past cafe terraces and bridges to a copy of St Mark's Square. We walked it as part of exploring the whole hotel, and there are SO many shops you kind of lose track. The ceiling's painted like a soft blue sky, so it's permanently warm late afternoon in there and the light bounces off the water. It's also the easiest way to cross the resort, which is how we ended up seeing most of it.
Fun fact: It runs 875,000 square feet with over 160 stores, plus live entertainment every day and a waterfall and garden tucked into the atrium.

The Wizard of Oz at Sphere
It's the 1939 movie blown up until it wraps the entire inside of the Sphere. I'd never seen the original, and starting here was unreal. You feel the wind in the tornado, the seats shake, apples drop from the sky, and a few scenes sent chills down my spine. The color lands saturated in a way no normal screen manages, and it's only running until Sphere switches to its next film. Doing this as a date with my mom made it a memory I'll keep forever.
Fun fact: The 1939 score was re-recorded from scratch just for this room, which has 167,000 programmable speakers.

Gordon Ramsay Hell's Kitchen
It's Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at the front of Caesars Palace, built to run like the show — the pitchfork from the set stands right at the door. You eat with the red and blue brigades working the open kitchen in full view, and the lobster risotto is the standout if you're ordering a la carte. I get the prix fixe every single time though — scallops, Beef Wellington, sticky toffee pudding — and I'm always happy with that call.
Fun fact: This is the very first Hell's Kitchen restaurant in the world. By its grand opening at Caesars Palace on 27 January 2018, nearly 25,000 people were already holding reservations.

This narrated night flight lifts above the Strip for views of the Bellagio fountains, High Roller, Sphere, Allegiant Stadium and the casino skyline. The city looks completely different against the dark desert, with the neon running beneath you instead of around you. This option departs from an air terminal just off the Strip and includes return transportation.
Day TwoShows & Immersive Art
Today pairs the center Strip with the art warehouse just west of it. We start on the High Roller, walk through Madame Tussauds, then give the afternoon to AREA15's surreal rooms. Evening brings MJ Live and O at the Bellagio before a late open-top bus ride through the lights.

The High Roller rises 550 feet above the LINQ Promenade, with air-conditioned pods and wide views across the Strip. The wheel turns slowly enough to take in the skyline from every angle, and the top gives you the clearest sense of how far Vegas spreads into the valley.

A wax museum tucked into the front of the Venetian, right off the Shoppes, with more than 75 figures from music, film and sport. Nothing sits behind rope, so you walk straight up and pose shoulder to shoulder for the photo. The lighting stays low, which is exactly why the faces look startlingly real when you're a foot away. Rooms are grouped by theme, and there's a station where you cast your own hand in wax and carry the mold home.

Ten minutes west of the Strip, a giant warehouse hides a district of surreal art you can wander for free, plus more than forty ticketed experiences built around it. Omega Mart, the fake grocery store you climb through and get lost in, swallows a solid hour on its own. Overhead, a zipline rips laps around the arcade while people throw axes and strap into VR below. It's the one place in Vegas where the sightseeing is something you walk into and touch instead of admire from a sidewalk.

Michael Jackson tribute concert at MJ Live
It's a Michael Jackson tribute concert with a live band, dancers, costumes, and all the biggest hits. We paid about $50 and sat near the front, close enough to see every dance move. The crowd dressed up, sang, and danced along, so the whole night felt casual and ridiculously fun. If you want a cheaper Vegas show packed with MJ songs, I highly recommend it.
- Kids need to be at least 5, and anyone under 18 has to attend with a parent or guardian.
- The Harrah's & The LINQ Monorail station is adjacent to the resort, so the monorail is the simplest no-car option for the showroom.

Cirque du Soleil's aquatic show at the Bellagio, staged in and above a 1.5-million-gallon pool whose stage rises and sinks mid-scene. Acrobats sprint across the water one second and vanish into it the next. The theatre is smaller than you'd expect from a Vegas Cirque room, so you're close to the storytelling wherever you sit. Middle seats give you the whole picture; the front rows put you near enough to feel part of it. And eight of the 75 performers are Olympians. 🤯
Fun fact: The pool holds 1.5 million gallons. When they drain it for maintenance, the water level of the Bellagio's lake outside rises by an inch.
- The auditorium sits at 72F while the stage runs at 84F, so the seats are cooler than the show looks. Bring a layer if you get cold easily.

This open-top double-decker loops through Las Vegas after dark, passing the Bellagio fountains, Strip hotels, the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign and Fremont Street. It works as an easy final sweep of the lights when you want the view without walking the Boulevard again.

Today you pick your own adventure. Option A pairs Hoover Dam with Seven Magic Mountains and Red Rock Canyon. Option B gives Valley of Fire the time it deserves, then returns to Las Vegas for the Atomic Museum.

Valley of Fire State Park
About 50 miles northeast of Vegas, 40,000 acres of Jurassic sandstone turn a red so bright the park's name stops being a metaphor. It's Nevada's oldest state park, and the scenic road keeps changing on you: arches, domes and slot-shaped washes arriving around each curve. You'll stop far more than you planned to. Keep an eye out for bighorn sheep picking their way across the rock while you do. Trailheads for Fire Wave and White Domes open straight off the road, so a walk out into it is easy to fit in.

Stop 2 · Option A2:00 PM
National Atomic Testing Museum
A short drive east of the Strip, it lays out the whole story of nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site, 65 miles northwest of the city. The galleries run from the Manhattan Project through the Cold War to the present, and you don't need to know a thing about the science to follow any of it. The part not to skip is the small theater that recreates what it was like to witness an atmospheric detonation. And a B53 nuclear bomb just sits there in the gallery, full size.
Hoover DamStop 1 · Option B8:30 AM
Hoover Dam
It's a 726-foot wall of concrete jammed into Black Canyon about 45 minutes southeast of the city, holding the Colorado back into Lake Mead. Walking the crest and the bridge walkway is free, and there's room out there to wander and photograph it from every angle. What makes the trip is the guided tour down inside to the generator floor, with someone explaining how it all actually works. On your way out, the 30-foot bronze Winged Figures of the Republic are worth a minute.

Seven Magic Mountains
Seven towers of boulders, each one over thirty feet tall and painted fluorescent, stand in open desert about 25 minutes south of the Strip. From I-15 they look like toys, and then you walk up to them and the scale flips completely. It's free, there's no reservation and two big lots to park in, so the only real question is when to go. Get there early and you'll have the stacks almost to yourself, the color blazing against grey rock and empty sky.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
Seventeen miles west of the Strip, the casinos drop away and you're under cliffs of red and cream sandstone that look nothing like the city you just left. A 13-mile one-way scenic drive threads through it, and it's worth giving that loop the full 45 minutes rather than treating it as a lap. Each of its nine stops opens onto overlooks and trailheads, so the day can be a serious climb, a ten-minute walk to a viewpoint, or just the drive with the windows down and the cliffs right over you.
Before You Go to Vegas
Yes — as long as you're willing to hand over the whole third day. Days one and two cover the Strip, Sphere, O and AREA15. On day three, choose the Hoover Dam, Seven Magic Mountains and Red Rock Canyon loop, or give Valley of Fire the morning before returning for the Atomic Museum.
You can, but you'd spend most of the day driving because the three sit in different directions. This itinerary deliberately makes you choose: Option A pairs Hoover Dam with Red Rock Canyon, while Option B gives Valley of Fire the time it deserves. Fire Wave and White Domes close from mid-May through September, so check what's open if you choose Valley of Fire in summer.
Book The Wizard of Oz at Sphere and O at the Bellagio first — those two are your fixed seats, both timed, and Sphere lets you in 45 minutes early to wander the venue. Grab Bacchanal Buffet and Hell's Kitchen for day one too. For the desert day, reserve your car, plus a Hoover Dam tour if you'd rather not drive, since those run on departure times. Valley of Fire charges per vehicle, not per person, so you just pay at the gate.
Bring more water than seems reasonable, sun cover, and shoes you can walk on sandstone in. Red Rock Canyon's scenic loop and Valley of Fire are both open desert with almost no shade, and the heat out there is nothing like the air-conditioned Strip you left that morning. Fill up on gas first, too — there's not much between the stops, and you're covering real distance.
