3-Day Hokkaido Summer Itinerary: Sapporo to Furano

A Little About This Trip

I traveled through Hokkaido from late June into early July, and its summer side completely won me over—bright days, green landscapes, and flowers everywhere! 🌸☀️ Sapporo, Otaru, Biei, and Furano were my favorite places and biggest highlights of my week-long trip. This three-day route brings them together with Sapporo’s city views and food, Otaru’s waterfront and craft streets, and Biei and Furano’s dreamy countryside. You’ll see colorful flower fields, otherworldly Blue Pond, and Farm Tomita’s lavender before enjoying one of the best lamb meals I’ve ever had. SO good! 😋💙

The route moves quickly, but every day feels completely different as you go from city to coast to countryside. These major stops can still guide another season, although the landscapes will have a whole new look. If you can stay longer, I recommend at least four or five days for a more relaxed pace. My four-day Hokkaido itinerary and five-day Hokkaido itinerary will help you plan the extra time! 🗺️

Before You Go to Hokkaido

Yes! Three days gives you a great taste of Hokkaido, with a day each for Sapporo, Otaru, and Biei and Furano. It’s a quick-moving trip, so it works best if you focus on those three regions.

June and July are especially beautiful for this route because Biei and Furano add colorful flower fields to the city and coastal stops. I took my trip from late June into early July. You can still use the route in other seasons, but the countryside will have a completely different look.

Reserve the Biei and Furano flower-fields tour first because it is the longest and most transportation-dependent day. Add the Otaru tour if you would rather not manage trains and local transfers on your own. 🌸
