6-Day Hokkaido Summer Itinerary: Sapporo to Jozankei

A Little About This Trip

I took my Hokkaido trip from late June into early July, and its summer side completely won me over! 🌸☀️ This 6-day Hokkaido summer itinerary gives you more breathing room for sunny city days, flower-filled countryside, coastal streets, blue water, and volcanic landscapes. You’ll move from Sapporo and Otaru into Biei and Furano, experience Ainu culture, continue through Noboribetsu and Lake Toya, and return to Sapporo before finishing around Jozankei’s nature and onsen country. 🌋♨️ I love how the scenery keeps changing, so even the broadest itinerary never feels repetitive.

Six days is such a great choice if you want the farther-flung nature stops without cutting Hokkaido’s city highlights or rushing quite as much. You still get the food, shopping, museums, countryside, and outdoor views that make the island feel so varied! 🗺️ If you need a shorter route, the three-day itinerary covers my favorite core stops, the four-day itinerary adds Noboribetsu and Lake Toya, and the five-day itinerary keeps Mt. Usu and Sapporo’s cultural sights.

Before You Go to Hokkaido

Six days gives you a varied taste of this part of Hokkaido, mixing city time, coastal Otaru, central Hokkaido’s landscapes, volcanic scenery, and an onsen finish. Hokkaido is much bigger than this route, but you can enjoy all six reviewed days without rushing.

Yes! I traveled from late June into early July and loved the sunny, comfortable weather, flowers, and lush scenery. It’s a wonderful time for this route’s outdoor stops and slower pace. You can also use the itinerary in other seasons, but the landscapes and some seasonal experiences will change.

Book the Biei–Furano and Noboribetsu–Lake Toya tours first, then reserve the Jozankei onsen day if you want transportation and bathing arrangements bundled together. Those three regional days are the least convenient to improvise. ♨️
