A Little About This Trip
I traveled through Hokkaido from late June into early July, and summer there was honestly DREAMY—sunny days, colorful flowers, green landscapes, and so much time outdoors! ☀️🌸 This 5-day Hokkaido summer itinerary gives you the range I’d want on a first trip, moving from Sapporo’s food and city views to Otaru’s waterfront charm and Biei and Furano’s flower-filled countryside. You’ll also experience Ainu culture, Noboribetsu’s steaming volcanic scenery, Lake Toya, and Mt. Usu before returning to Sapporo. 🌋 Some of my favorite memories fit naturally into this route, including mist rolling below Mt. Moiwa, fresh fish cakes in Otaru, and that incredible melon at Tomita Melon House. 😋
Four to five days is my ideal range because you can see several sides of Hokkaido without rushing through every stop. If you have less time, try the three-day itinerary for my biggest highlights or the four-day itinerary to include Noboribetsu and Lake Toya. One extra day? The six-day itinerary adds a final nature-and-onsen day around Jozankei. ♨️

Before You Go to Hokkaido
Yes, five days gives you a broader look at Hokkaido without missing the main stops in Sapporo, Otaru, Biei, and Furano. You'll also visit Noboribetsu and Lake Toya, then wrap up with Sapporo's art, history, parks, and food.
No. I based it on my late-June-to-early-July trip, so the flowers and green scenery are a major part of its personality, but most of the route’s cities, cultural sights, food stops, volcanic landscapes, and museums are useful in other seasons too. The natural scenery will simply look very different.
Reserve the Biei and Furano flower-fields tour plus the Noboribetsu and Lake Toya day tour first. Those are the two long regional days; the Sapporo cultural stops on day five are easier to arrange around them.
