A Little About This Trip
Itoshima is one of my favorite places in Fukuoka, and it makes the PERFECT day trip when you want a break from the busy city! 🌊 Start by browsing Ito Sai Sai for local snacks, then head into the mountains for Shiraito Falls before circling west through strawberry farms, the salt workshop, and the rugged coastline around Keya. Finish at Sakurai Futamigaura and peaceful Sakurai Shrine. We somehow had Futamigaura Beach completely to ourselves, and standing beside the torii with the Couple Stones out at sea felt magical. It is still one of my favorite memories from Japan! 🤍
Give this route a full day, and I recommend renting a car or joining a guided tour because the stops are spread across the peninsula. Along the way, you can pick strawberries, try salt pudding beside the water, take in Keya no Oto, and walk through the leafy Totoro Forest before the final coastal stops. 🍓🌿 If Itoshima is part of a longer Fukuoka trip, my 2-day Fukuoka itinerary offers it as a day-two alternative, while the 3-day Fukuoka itinerary and 4-day Fukuoka itinerary both give the coast its own full day.

Before You Go to Fukuoka
Yes, if you start early and focus on the main coastal and mountain highlights. It is a full driving day, but the route gives you a great mix of ocean views, local food, and nature without needing to stay overnight.
A car is the easiest option because the Couple Stones, Keya, the salt workshop, and Shiraito Falls are spread across the peninsula. A guided day tour is the simplest alternative if you do not want to drive.
Reserve strawberry picking when it is in season, and check boat availability at Keya no Oto because sailings depend on sea conditions. If you prefer not to drive, book your guided Itoshima tour once your travel date is firm.
