A Little About This Trip
Five days in Barcelona is where the trip starts to feel wonderfully complete! 🌈 You can give Gaudí’s Eixample and the Gothic Quarter their own days, spend time around El Born, explore the museums and views of Montjuïc, and still finish with a full day at Montserrat. 🏔️ You’re not choosing between architecture, art, beach time, football, and the mountains anymore—you can actually enjoy all of them at a comfortable pace.
The food deserves just as much attention as the landmarks. Can Plaça served the best paella of our Barcelona trip, Jon Cake made the best cheesecake I have ever had, and Sensi was my favorite restaurant in the city. Save an evening for Sips too if you love creative cocktails! 🍸 If five days is more time than you have, my 4-day Barcelona itinerary lets you choose between Montserrat and Montjuïc. The 3-day itinerary is the tighter first-timer version, while the art and history route focuses the trip around museums and architecture.

- We returned for the paella negra and octopus—and cleaned both plates 😋

Sagrada Familia Basilica

- Gaudí's unfinished basilica looks unlike any other church I've seen

- Climbing beside the construction was my Barcelona highlight! 🤩

- Whole hams hanging above the aisles make it unmistakably Barcelona

- Probably the BEST sangria we had anywhere in Spain!

Before You Go to Barcelona
No — five days is when you stop having to choose. You still get the Gaudí day and the Gothic Quarter day up front, but now El Born fits too, with the Palau de la Música and the Museu Picasso, plus a whole Montjuïc day for the MNAC and the castle, and Montserrat at the end without cutting anything to make room. Want to move faster and see less? The four-day version covers the same city in a tighter loop.
It's a full day out of the city, and dropping that in the middle eats the evening on either side of it. Save it for the end and you've already seen Barcelona before you leave it — so you can take the ride up, the abbey and the ridge at your own pace. Want to hear the boys' choir in the basilica? Time your visit around it: they sing at 13:00 and 19:00 on weekdays, and 11:00 and 18:45 on Sundays.
Lock in Sagrada Família and Casa Batlló first, since both have timed entry and anchor your first day. Then reserve the Montserrat basilica and rack-railway trip for day five. The smaller museums can be fitted around those three fixed plans. 🎟️
