A Little About This Trip
Six days lets you follow the same north-to-south Kyushu route while adding Kagoshima only after the core trip is covered! 🚗 You’ll begin in Fukuoka, continue through Yufuin and Beppu for storybook streets, geothermal hells, steam-cooked food, and an onsen soak, then head to Kumamoto for the castle and Akaushi beef. 🏯 From there, Mount Aso, Kurokawa Onsen, and Takachiho bring the volcanoes, outdoor baths, sacred sites, and remote mountain scenery. 🌋♨️
Kagoshima now comes at the end 🌸, where it fits naturally as the final southbound stop for Shiroyama Observatory, Sengan-en, Kagoshima City Aquarium, Sakurajima, and shaved ice at Tenmonkan Mujaki. Before heading south, you can spend more time in the city with my 2-day Fukuoka itinerary or 3-day Fukuoka itinerary. This is still a fast-moving road trip, so the 5-day version drops Kagoshima completely instead of squeezing it into the middle. If you have seven days, the 7-day itinerary gives Fukuoka a second day before continuing along the same route.

Before You Go to Kyushu
The route starts in Fukuoka, continues through Yufuin and Beppu, then visits Kumamoto, Mount Aso, Kurokawa Onsen and Takachiho before finishing in Kagoshima.
Yes, once you have enough time for the Fukuoka, Kumamoto, Mount Aso and Takachiho core. Kagoshima works best at the end of this route, adding Sengan-en, active Sakurajima and regional food without making you backtrack.
