A Little About This Trip
Two days in Venice is quick, but it is enough time to fall in love with the bridges, canals and little corners hiding between the major sights. Day one leads you from the spiral staircase at Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo to the Rialto Bridge and across the Grand Canal toward the Accademia Bridge. Try to reach Rialto around sunset—the light on the water was JAWDROPPING—and stop for Suso along the way because its pistachio gelato was my favorite in all of Italy. 🌅
Day two is all about Piazza San Marco, the Doge’s Palace and St Mark’s Basilica before you wander toward Libreria Acqua Alta and finish with a gondola ride. 🎭 Venice rewards getting a little lost, so leave room between reservations to follow whichever bridge looks prettiest. 🚣 If you want a slower neighborhood-by-neighborhood route, use my 3 day Venice itinerary. The 4 day Venice itinerary adds more art plus a full lagoon day for Murano and Burano.

- Free Ca’ Foscari tours run Saturday mornings; meet in the courtyard 10 minutes early
Ponte dell'Accademia
Why this stop?
- One of only four bridges crossing the Grand Canal
- Its wooden arch links Dorsoduro and San Marco with beautiful canal views
Practical Tips
- If you’re arriving by vaporetto, use the Accademia stop—it’s right at the foot of the bridge.

Before You Go to Venice
Yes! Two days gives you time for Rialto Bridge, St Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace, with stops for cicchetti and a meal beside the canal. You'll have a busy couple of days, so choose three if you'd like more time for museums and wandering through the alleyways. Save Murano and Burano for a longer visit.
Book St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace before the trip so your San Marco day is not lost to ticket lines or unavailable entry. The bridges, cicchetti bars and neighborhoods on this short route can stay flexible.
Start with the bridges! Spend your first day exploring around Rialto, stop for a meal beside the Grand Canal, then wander toward the Accademia Bridge. On day two, visit St Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace and the basilica, with a break for cicchetti. You'll get to enjoy Venice on foot as well as see its famous sights.
You could, but you'd be giving up a big part of your time in Venice. Visiting both islands takes up much of a day, leaving just one for the bridges, St Mark's Square and everything else you want to see. Give yourself four days if the islands are on your wish list; my four-day itinerary includes them.
